On April 13th 2019, the New York State Office of Court Administration (OCA), which provides a New York Statewide criminal history record search, increased its fees from $65 to $95, with immediate effect. http://ww2.nycourts.gov/apps/chrs/index.shtml
This affects any residents of New York submitted for a background check from this date forward.
The New York Statewide criminal history record search is just one of the checks performed with the industry standard background check and is the sole reason that NY background checks are more expensive than those of any other jurisdiction. As a result, the cost of an industry-standard background check for NY residents has risen from $127 to $157.
Renewing a non-expired IC01 for a NY resident will cost $142.
We apologize for this unforeseen but unavoidable price increase for NY residents.
Why is NY increasing its fee?
The purpose stated for the $30 increase is to fund “indigent defense programs,” the legal services provided to those in the state who cannot afford legal representation.
